The wetlands of the birdringingstation Schlammwiss belong to the "Vallée de la Syre de Moutfort à Roodt/Syre". The area is protected by the Conservation of Wild Birds Directive 79/409/CEE and therefore a part of the Natura2000 zones. The whole conservation area reachs 375ha along the river Syre.

The foundation "Hellëf fir d'Natur" (HFN) bought 1982 19ha reeds inside of this nature reserve. Afterwards the group "Letzebuerger Natur- a Vullschutzliga" (LNVL) founded the birdringingstation "Schlammwiss" with the objective to record the breeding population by ringing. The station gets supported by donations.
